Mary jumped a little and looked round. She smiled at once.
"Hi Tanith, I'm good. Do you want me to get you a drink?"

"No need thanks," said Tanith, "I've just come to keep an eye on things. You sure you're okay?"

"Oh yes, really good. Tanith this is Walter. Walter, this is my friend Tanith Ravenscall,"

"Nice to mee tyou." He tried (unsuccessfully) not to stare at the spiderweb. "You're welcome to join us, if you like. We're just taking in a bit of the games."

"Thanks," Tanith said and gave him a mischievous grin. "Made any bets so far? I've put ten galleons of 'temper tantrum'"

"I'm not really the betting type." He said, "but I'm fairly certain you get you money on that one. I know at least one person in there that's got a temper."

"Everyone in Hogwarts has got a temper, Wal," said Tanith, "some wear it like a jewel, some hide it deep inside like a growing pearl. It always sparkles though, eventually. It comes with the magic."

"Fair enough," he smiled, "and with the way these teams are set, I expect the first breakdown within an hour at the least."

Professor Allbrass entered the hall and glared, as was his habit, at everyone and everything. He approached the orbs and stood, holding the lapels of his frock coat and looked down his nose at the images ahead of him.
As professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts this duelsport was of particular interest to him. How were his pupils performing, eh?
They had started well it seemed.
"I have heard alarming rumours, mm, that wagers are being placed on the outcome," he announced to nobody in particular, "I trust that these rumours are entirely groundless, as anyone responsible would clearly realise they would be in so much trouble they would have to rewrite the dictionary definition of trouble to encompass a great deal more than currently."

"I wouldn't worry, Professor. No one would dare with you keeping an eye out." Walter said, shaking his head. Honestly, while he wouldn't participate in it, there was no harm in a friendly wager.

Mary kept quiet, always having been a bit daunted by the DADA professor. She moved a bit closer to Walter and crossed her arms tightly, eyes fixed on the Orbs.

"I didn't think you'd listen to rumours Professor Allbrass," said Tanith innocently, "I do hope you haven't heard too many about us all."

"Hmmph," said Allbrass, "Too many to keep track of Tansy. If you will excuse me I have corridors to stalk."
If he seemed unusually informal in addressing her by her name instead of as Miss Ravenscall, that was mitigated by the fact that he used the name on her records and not the name she habitually used for herself. Ignoring her narrowed eyes Allbrass strolled away smiling to himself.

"Tansy?" Walter gave her a sideways look.

"Must be something wrong with your ears, Wally-woll," said Tanith, "Let's hope it's not catching."
Nobody called her Tansy. Not even her parents now. Okay, Nana Ravenscall did, but she was special.
