Elavial looked away, her sinuses indicating oncoming tears. "Sir, she tried escaping. She almost made it, but he got to her. She's bruised and has cuts all over." She moved her hands over her own arms. "He's starving her. I'm afraid of the worst. I don't think she'll be able to escape again." She managed to keep her tears to herself.

He came around his desk and put his hand on her shoulder. "She is in terrible danger. We will all have to live with that idea. In the meantime all that can be done will be done. What you saw will help in finding her. I have good faith we'll find her soon now."
That was a claim he could not defend with evidence but it might make her feel better.

"I think ..." He considered. "I think you yourselves are a better judge of what you should or should not tell your friends than I. The only advice I can give is to be wise," he looked at Elavial, "and to be kind," he looked at Walter. "Once you tell them, you can't ever take it back."

Elavial crossed her arms over her chest. "In all honestly, I'd rather not. It'll ruin them, especially if we have nothing to go on, for now. No, I won't tell them." Robert came to mind, and she couldn't bear getting his hopes up again. "No." Her mind was made up.

"Agreed." Walter said. He'd been thinking the same thing. They'd be told if the aurora found something. No need to get anyone's hopes up.
