"Weird, in a very cool way." He laughed. "How far does it go? I mean, could I whisper something in our common room and have it reach you in yours?"

"Not quite," said Tanith who had learned the hard way not to exaggerate her Charms' power. Unsatisfied customers... "Depends on air movement. Over a short distance like this, or a classroom, or between tables in the hall is fine. Any further and it gets fuzzy. You'd probably hear a murmuring or feel like you were getting a wet kiss on the ear. Want to learn it?"

"Absolutely." He pulled out his wand.

Tanith slid down off the rock and stood by Walter.
"Want to learn too Ant?" She frowned as Mary shook her head, it wasn't like her not to want a freebie. "Okay. Right Wally-Wol, this is the gesture..."
She quickly talked him through the gestures and words and the little mental pushes needed to cast Misty Whispers. It wasn't a complicated spell overall, but took a bit of delicacy in wrapping the air of breath around itself to form a distinct package. She'd spend about ten minutes giving him the basics.

Walter's first few tries failed miserably, causing him to laugh. "You know, I'd feel like less of an idiot if you tried to, Mary." He gave her an inviting smile.

"Sure," said Mary and she took up a place next to Walter as Tanith talked them through it again. She tried, and amended, and tried some more as Tanith taught them both. Finally she managed to capture a whisp of misty breath that drifted a little way over the lake and dissipated with a gentle whisper of "got you"

"Okay, now I have to get it right this time." Finally, after a few more false starts, he managed, finally, to say "finally."
"Charms have never been my strong point." He siad with a laugh, "but this will serve me well in a lot of classes."

"All the boys like my charms," said Tanith in a teasy voice, "And most of the girls too. You know where to come for the real deal, Wally-Wol. All the useful little cantrips that the teachers won't tell you"

"So where did you learn them then?"

"Books," said Tanith, counting off on her fingers, "family traditions, word of mouth, inspiration. You know, the usual"

"Come and ask me if you need any new Charms," said Tanith, "and if you pay attention you'll figure out how to build them yourself."

"I will." He glanced towards Mary. "I's a shame I hadn't known you before, you would have enjoyed the party we were this past weekend. Annie, one of the girls throwing it, and Mary of course, used some very clever charms in the decorations and invitations."

"I love a party," said Tanith, "You should come visit the Slytherin some time. Oh we know how to party. Lots of people in their finest formal outfits sitting quietly round a great table sipping wine and making polite comments to hide the fact their families have hated each other for the last six centuries, and referring obliquely to some insult paid to their great great grandmother at somebody's wedding reception."
In fact the Slytherin could party very well, but Tanith did love playing with preconceptions

"That....sounds fun?" He had the feeling she was kidding, but didn't know her well enough to tell for sure.
