Tanith is currently in the sixth year at Hogwarts, and is a proud Slytherin. She is primarily a Slytherin because the Sorting Hat took one sniff of her bloodline and pedigree and couldn't imagine her being in any other house. The Ravenscalls are an old old magical family based in the north of England, claiming that their line is unbroken all the way back to the time of infamous magician and poet Aelfric Lackreed whose remote tower home bore their family name. Family tradition suggests that he rented the land from them and passed on some of his magical secrets to them out of gratitude.
Whether this story is true or not, and it most likely is not, the Ravenscalls enjoy the benefits of a long standing ancestry. They have always been more inclined to regard it as a useful quirk of destiny however rather than any sign of innate superiority, and they lack the smug bigotry of some older families.
Tanith shares in this refreshing world view. She is a good natured and outgoing young woman with a mischievous sense of humour and a sometimes wicked tongue that can be barbed when deployed against those who deserve it, but never deployed maliciously against those who do not. She is, in her own words, bloody awful astride a broom and couldn't manage to fall off one successfully without checking the manual first. She's decent enough at duelling and wandwork in general but lacks the killer instinct that could make her really good. Her primary magical gift is in Charms and she knows a staggering amount of them including some really obscure but practical ones that she says she learned from her Uncle Osric before he was "carted off to the funny farm" after he became convinced that mountains were alive and prone to making bad jokes very very slowly. She is happy to share some of these charms with people she likes and received a stern reprimand during her second year for selling some on the quiet to fellow pupils. Now she gives them away for nothing and that's much more acceptable.
She's tall, slim and pale skinned, with a tendency to dress a little bit flamboyantly within the guidelines of Hogwarts uniform, and her make-up is occasionally cause for concern and in one memorable case exorcism.
