"Not everything is comfortable Tabby," said Grace, "but sometimes it's necessary. Do you blame yourself? For your sister's death?"

"Aren't you going to answer the nice lady?"
Tabitha froze. She didn't want to. Not with Abby there.

Grace knelt down by Tabitha and smiled faintly. She looked in Tabitha's eyes.
"It's alright, you don't have to answer."
She paused and said, "Abby? Do you blame your sister for your death?"
She watched every reaction.

"Tabby, you have to tell her for me."
Tabitha didn't say anything, she was beginning to shake.
"You have to. You have to You have to." The never-again girl stamped her foot. The grass bent below it, barely visible, but it did.
Tabitha covered her ears.

"Thank you," said Grace, almost tenderly. "That was very brave of you."
She stood and as she stood she glanced down at the grass just for a moment. A thoughtful look.
"I can help you," she said, her gaze midway between Tabitha and... where Abby seemed to be?

"She won't let you."
Tabitha squeezed her eyes shut.
"Why won't you let her help me, Tabby? Help us?" Abby reached out to shake her sister, but couldn't move her. Frustrated, she turned to shout at Grace. "Bring me back! I want to come back! Please!"
Tabitha started counting to herself, naming prime numbers in order.

"Come inside," Grace said to Tabitha, "I need to go back inside now and I don't think you should be here by the pond, should you?"

Tabby nodded, and ignoring her sister, followed Grace inside, still listing.

"It's not easy having her around," Grace said as she walked, "Is she always there or only sometimes?"
She opened the side door into the institute, a door not usually used by the patients and gestured for Tabitha to go on ahead. She would take her to her private office to continue this in more comfort

Tabitha shook her head, keeping close to the wall. Her notebook was once again open, her pencil at the ready.
"Sometimes she goes...somewhere. I don't like it there."

"Come in please, take a seat."
Grace's office was open plan and airy, with bookcases along one wall, a neat desk, and a pair of chairs facing each other in the heart of the room. She was gesturing to one of these, and she herself took the other after taking off her hat and hanging it up.
"Thank you for being so open with me, I know it must be hard. I will help you deal with things. What is this place she sometimes goes to?"

It was hard to talk with Abby shouting in her ear.
"It's dark." Tabitha said, more loudly than necessary. "And cold. Everything is like here, but...not real."

Grace noted the volume and guessed that Tabitha was listening to another input. She held up a finger, a focus for attention, and spoke clearly.
"Is anyone else there with Abby?"

"That's mine. You stop it Tabby. Telling her only helps you, not us! Stop it now!"
"She's shouting, I shouldn't..." Tabitha clenched her fists.
"You have everything, don't you dare take what's mine."

"Abby!" said Grace, "I will listen to you next. This is Tabby's turn. Let her speak."
