"No," said Gur Aryeh, "Not of mine. There are other powers in this land but me. I came here but recently... I think."
He looked a little lost for a moment, as though a memory haunted him but remained tantalisingly out of reach.
"But the wolves will not come for you again while I am near you. You are under my aegis now."

"Not that I don't appreciate not getting attacked by wolves, but why shield us?" There was something about him, she felt her attitude softening towards him.

"Because," Gur Aryeh said, "You're alive. And you're mortal. And you're real."
He walked a little closer to her, dark hair, dark eyes, such a contrast in this snowy landscape. He seemed intent on her, his eyes never leaving her face.
"You're real..." He touched her face gently with his fingertips as though lost in a reverie. "Mortal. We should support each other."

"Are you not? Mortal?" She didn't brush his hand away, but she shivered.

"The same way you did I think," said Gur Aryeh, "Through a wardrobe first of all."

"When? Where was the wardrobe when you came through?" She wished he would step back a little.

Marie eyed how close Gur Aryeh was to Marisa with suspicion but kept silent. Marisa had the conversation covered.

"Give the lady some room to breathe," Allbrass said, his voice a low growl.

Gur Aryeh looked at Allbrass and scowled.
"You are not her father," he said, "the lady can look after herself"
He turned back to look at Marisa.
"I was with my family. We were in hiding. The world outside had gone mad.. and then the world inside did too"

"You're one of the onderduikers."

She was very glad he'd survived. "It's over now. Outside. The world is becoming whole again."

"Onderduikers," he said with a smile, "Yes. I was. Are things changing then? In the old world?"
