"Why is he, it, called The Deathless?"

"I didn't name him," said Gur Aryeh, "that is the name he has taken for himself, the name that everyone here knows him by. They say he was from the mortal world, once. They say he cannot die"

"A lot of people have thought that about themselves," she said, not too impressed. "In our world at least. It always led to a disappointing end."

Allbrass smiled.
"It's a dangerous boast, makes people want to test it. Maybe we can help him with that"

"Perhaps we should make sure the openings are closed first, so he doesn't try to escape through them. I'd rather not have another "deathless" person running around in our world."

Gur Aryeh looked thoughtful.
"You're right," he said, "you close the gates if you can. I will help you. But I think then that I'll remain here."

She couldn't help a small frown at that. She kept feeling he should not stay here, not once it was safe. "Good, well, do you know where any of them are?"

"The weak points are all dangerous," said Gur Aryeh, "Either guarded or... well there is turbulence where world meets world. A day's march west of here there is a ruined tower. The Deathless has minions there and there is a weak spot there leading away from this world. North of here there is a great abyss and reality runs over its edge like a waterfall. Where it goes I don't know."

"I suggest we look at the tower first. It sounds the most threatening." She didn't fancy having to walk for a day though, especially since they hadn't packed for a long stay. "Should we head back to the wardrobe to resupply before we head there?"

"Agreed," said Allbrass. He turned to Gur Aryeh, "Will you come with us? Take us to the tower once we're done there?"

The young man nodded.
"I will," he said.

The young man led the group back through the snow taking a direct route to where they had entered. He moved through the snow easily as though well used to it. The raven followed at a short distance, swooping and whirling, occasionally settling on Gur Aryeh's shoulder.
At length they came to the blurred haze in the air through which they could see the room beyond, the room in which the Onderduikers had dwelled.

Gur Aryeh shook his head.
"I won't go through," he said. "I'll wait here for you to return."

"We won't be long. I swear." Marisa said, glancing towards the entrance to her own world.

Allbrass stepped through into the little hideaway and felt the mundane of his own world settle around him as he went further and emerged through the wardrobe.
He lit a cigarette. It would have seemed odd to have done so while in the snowy wilderness of the other world.
